We turned deep local knowledge into aquaculture excellence.
What began as two locals helping their community fish smarter has grown into one of Zambia’s leading aquaculture success stories.
Founders Ketty Shamakamba and Chiozya Mwanza grew up on the shores of Lake Kariba and built Lake Farms to prove that commercial success and community empowerment can go hand in hand.
Together, they lead an integrated fish and clean energy enterprise that’s closing Zambia’s 50,000 MT fish deficit through sustainable production and inclusive trade.
The company farms premium tilapia in modern cage systems and sources responsibly from local fishers—linking them to reliable markets through a cold-chain network that serves both rural and urban customers.
Alongside aquaculture, Lake Farms has embedded solar-powered energy solutions into the communities and retail networks it supports, reaching over 12,000 micro-enterprises and 8,000 households with clean energy access.
Lake Farms has been supported by organizations like USAID, Shell Foundation, Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund, ISF Advisors, Accion, and BFA Global
